Thanksgiving Morning. Our first holiday at Henry. The dogs are now snoring peacefully during their after-breakfast nap, and I have a few minutes to curl up with a hot coffee before the day really begins.
As I look around, Henry seems like he feels better already with the changes I’ve made so far. He has yet to strenuously resist a particular project, or cause any significant problems. I can’t help but think he is pleased, and welcomes us here. Is it weird to consider how a house feels about your presence? Henry has been here much, much longer than anything else. I feel like I want to be respectful of that. I am thankful to be part of the story now.
Thankful… yes… but it’s more than that.
Gratitude. The recognition of goodness in our lives, and the realization that sources other than ourselves helped to achieve this goodness. Ultimately, gratitude may encourage us to “pay it forward” and help others.
Because really, isn’t that why we’re here?
Happy Thanksgiving.
